Hannah McElgunn is a joint PhD Candidate in the Departments of Anthropology and Linguistics and a 2019-2020 Charlotte Newcombe Dissertation Fellow. Her dissertation is entitled “Language at the Center of the Universe” and explores the relationship between the Hopi language, knowledge, and property in this era of language revitalization. More broadly, her research interests include semiotic theory, the relationship between grammatical categories and cultural concepts, community-engaged fieldwork, and indigeneity and decolonization.
